Student Smart Technology Standout mboRijnland 2018

Mike Burghout is the 2018 Outstanding Award winner for mboRijnland. In a packed and warm theater in Alphen aan den Rijn, he emerged victorious from five nominees on Wednesday evening. The Smart Technology student from Gouda made a splash with his dream of helping people with smart innovations. "Mikey, mikey," a loud chant echoed from the audience at the announcement. "I'm incredibly honored to be an Outstanding Award winner, and I'm going to do my best to be a fantastic ambassador for vocational education," said the winner. Shelly Sterk hosted the celebratory evening.

During the annual Outstanding Awards of mboRijnland, Groene Hart Hospital was chosen as the training company of the year. Jeroen Mulder and Jolanda Schilt The hospital's staff are passionate about bringing out the best in students: "Interns are the new employees of the future. What could be better than giving young people the opportunity to truly learn in practice?" This year is particularly special for Groene Hart Hospital, as no fewer than two teams of teachers nominated the hospital. Other nominated training companies include Zamensterk, Heineken Nederland, Competa BV, and Zuiver restaurant.

Hospitality teacher Peter Berkhout teacher of the year

Peter wants to know where his students are, texts them, and calls them (and their parents) when necessary. "I want to give students the tools they need to function well. Teach them the tricks of the trade: hospitality in the broadest sense of the word." It's no wonder his students nominated him. His commitment and expertise led the jury to choose Peter as Teacher of the Year 2018. The teachers, José Boekestijn (healthcare) and Corné van Pelt (Economy) were also nominated by their students.

 

National Student Standout

Outliers are vocational students who distinguish themselves from their peers by going the extra mile during their studies or internships. Jessie Bos was the Outlier in 2017, and she will mentor the 2018 winner next year. The 2018 Student Outlier will represent mboRijnland at the national Ambassadors' Gala of the MBO Council. The Outliers election is part of "This is MBO" and is organized by the MBO Council. With the "This is MBO" campaign, students, teachers, and staff from the vocational education sector clarify what vocational education is and the importance of vocational education and craftsmanship to our society.

Finalists of the 2018 Outstanding Award announced

The finalists for the 15e The top performers' awards have been announced and the professional jury will choose the winners on Wednesday, May 16. The five students, five training companies, and three teachers have achieved exceptional results and are in contention for the title of Outstanding 2018. The festive finale will take place at the Castellum Theater in Alphen aan den Rijn, and Alderman Han de Jager will present the prizes during the festive evening.

In the finals, students, lecturers, and training companies must convince the jury with a short pitch why they should be the 2018 Outlier. The nominated students are Mike Burghout (training smart technology, Gouda), Mels van Wees (Entrance training, Leiden), Mert Kösedag (education Retail Manager, Zoetermeer), Kiran Chawola (education Financial administrator, Alphen aan den Rijn) and Charmayne Paas (training Sports and Exercise, Gouda).

Training companies, teachers and jury

The following mboRijnland training companies have been nominated: Competa BV, Groene Hart Hospital, Heineken Nederland, Restaurant Zuiver, and Zamensterk. The teachers in contention for the title are Peter Berkhout (Bakery and Catering), José Boekestijn (healthcare) and Corné van Pelt (EconomyThis year's jury consists of Jessie Bos, Outstanding 2017, Jolanda de Ruiter of Andreas Kappers, Training Company of 2017, and Jan Oskam, nominated teacher of 2017. 

Music by a student from The Voice

Economics student Roemillo Baumgard of mboRijnland will provide the music during the party evening. Roemillo has previously participated in The Voice of HollandThe party evening will be hosted by SBS6 presenter Shelly Sterk.

Communications director nominated for national award

Alma Feenstra, Marketing & Communications Director at mboRijnland, has been nominated for "Communications Man/Woman of 2018" by Logeion, the professional organization for communications.

On June 21, 2018, the jury will announce the winner at Logeion's annual conference. Alma was nominated for her and her team's impressive achievements in a short time. Alma sees the nomination for the important communications award as a reward for the team. "A fantastic compliment; others have seen us! As the Marketing & Communications department, we are proud of all our colleagues. This recognition rewards our shared mission and commitment to making the merger a success and introducing the new name, mboRijnland."

 

Other 2018 candidates work for well-known institutions such as the Red Cross, the Ministry of Finance and companies such as Philips and Nuon. 

Election of 'Communications Man/Woman'

Every year, Logeion spotlights a communications professional who has delivered a distinctive performance in the past year. Professionals who inspire, innovate, and are impactful in their approach, and who have made a clear individual contribution, are recognized during the "Communications Man/Woman" award ceremony. This year's awards ceremony will take place during the annual "C-DAY18" conference on June 21, 2018, in Nieuwegein.
