What will you learn?

During the Dental Assistant training you will learn step by step how to support the dentist in his or her work.

You'll learn how to welcome and comfort patients. You'll also learn how to prepare for treatments and assist the dentist during them. You'll learn which equipment and materials to use, and how to clean and properly maintain them.

In Front Office, we teach you how to receive patients at a reception desk and perform various tasks, such as making appointments, preparing estimates, issuing referrals, and providing information. For Dental Care, we teach you how to prepare various instruments, assist with various treatments, and independently perform procedures such as applying sealants, making temporary crowns, taking impressions, and taking x-rays. You'll also learn how to work safely and hygienically. Furthermore, in Quality and Expertise, you'll learn how to deliver quality in a dental practice and work expertly. This includes laws and regulations, working according to protocols, what to do if child abuse is suspected, and how to respond in emergencies, such as first aid. In all components, you'll learn social and communication skills. You must not only be able to engage with patients but also be able to maintain a sufficient distance from the (emotional) problems that sometimes arise. Students also take electives focused on the profession as a specialization, or electives related to further education, such as preparation for a higher professional education (HBO).
All first-year dental assistant students at all mboRijnland locations use laptops on a wireless network. This means these students are required to have their own laptop at school.
